<image:title>Testimonials - “I could let go and allow myself to be cared for.”</image:title>
<image:caption>“My partner and I were part way through the IVF process when I started visiting the Albany Street Clinic. I was keen to use acupuncture and massage to support our journey and help achieve a successful pregnancy. I have endometriosis and this was hypothesised to be part of our fertility picture. I'd previously used acupuncture for muscular pain but was aware of growing evidence for its use in female health and fertility. I had regular sessions of acupuncture with Fiona, and massage with Jill. With expert input these bespoke treatments were designed to support stress and anxiety management, embryo transfer and implantation, pregnancy aches and pains and labour preparation. I found these sessions incredibly restorative, each offering a time I could let go and allow myself to be cared for. The journey we were on to create our family felt challenging at times and my sessions at the Albany Street Clinic gave me a sense of agency. I would leave with a renewed positivitivity, prepared and ready for the next stage or challenge. Our daughter was born at the start of the year and I am incredibly grateful to the whole team for their input and support. Having recently had a postpartum massage with Jill, I could not recommend the team more highly, whatever stage of your journey you are at!” Elizabeth, Natural Fertility Centre client</image:caption>

<image:title>Fertility Massage - The ideal complement to your fertility journey</image:title>
<image:caption>Fertility massage is a deep, yet gentle non invasive therapy that helps to; reduce congestion in your abdominal area, improve blood, nerve and lymph flow, bring your abdominal organs into alignment and break down scar tissue within the digestive tract and reproductive organs, leaving your abdomen feeling lighter and freer. With 80% of our immune system residing in the digestive tract, the fertility massage treatment includes the whole abdominal area in order to create balance within the digestive and reproductive systems. Our fertility massage is performed by Jill Wright who joined the team in June 2014 following training with Clare Blake, founder of Fertility Massage Therapy and Training UK. She combines a variety of bodywork techniques drawn from many traditional cultures to create a unique massage experience, tailored to your individual needs. We understand that experiencing fertility issues can often cause high levels of emotional stress and anxiety. Fertility massage encourages relaxation by providing a safe, quiet space for you to rest and reconnect with your body. Fertility massage is an ideal complement on a fertility journey, promoting balance and harmony between mind and body whilst helping to create a happy, healthy home for a future baby.</image:caption>

<image:title>Nutrition - Nature’s Medicine</image:title>
<image:caption>We're very much about positive eating - we are not as much interested in what to cut out as in what to add in. Nutritional Therapy aims to provide you with the best possible intake of all the nutrients to allow you to be as healthy as possible. When nutrients are deficient in the body for any reason, imbalances can occur which may manifest as poor egg or sperm quality, erratic periods and PMS. Many of our patients believe their daily food intake to be 'good' but their diet is often lacking in nutrients. A diet of no, or little, breakfast (piece of toast & cup of tea), a baked potato, salad or sandwich for lunch followed by “meat and two veg” for dinner is enough to get by on, but does not necessarily contain enough goodness to build up the body for conception and pregnancy. Men also need to boost their body's resources with some healthy, positive eating to optimise sperm quality. Our nutritionist, Marie Dandie will assist you to find the best dietary regime for your needs and your personality. Marie creates tailor-made nutritional and supplement guidance to promote optimal egg and sperm quality, improve hormonal balance and best womb lining. In some cases, she might also recommend that both partners do a Hair Mineral Analysis to measure levels of mineral in the hair and identify any toxic metals (such as mercury or lead) that may be present , especially in the case of recurrent miscarriage. It is also possible to have tests such as hormone testing, nutrition status testing and digestive function tests.</image:caption>

<image:title>Nutrition - The next best thing to food</image:title>
<image:caption>Vitamins and minerals are catalysts to help our body function more effectively in all circumstances and we wanted to supply the highest quality supplements to allow the body to work at its best. The NFC Essentials range is a 'food state' supplement - meaning that what is inside the capsules is closer to a food than a processed chemical. Food State is a manufacturing process that binds real food with vitamins and minerals. These are more easily recognised by the body and because they are more easily absorbed you receive the maximum benefit. Food State Supplements are - quite literally - the next best thing to food. If you look at the ingredients list on the bottles, the quantities are generally less than on the average, more processed, supplements because your body is able to absorb more from each capsule. Dr Jane Jamieson (PhD) who used to work at the NFC as a resident nutrition specialist, helped to develop the 'NFC Essentials' supplements and we based the formulae on her expertise plus our knowledge of what our patients needed. NFC Essentials supplements contain the most comprehensive mix of minerals, antioxidants and vitamins available. Currently, our range includes a high quality formula for women, for men and for during pregnancy as well as an Antioxidant + Co Q10 and a fish oil/Omega 3, derived from deep sea fish and therefore lower in toxins. Our supplements are made for us, in the UK, by Oriental and Western Ltd. OWL are the result of over 30 years of research, development and formulations of the highest quality vitamins, minerals and herbs for use by health conscious consumers around the world. Our products are compliant with current legal requirements of the MHRA - Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency.</image:caption>

<image:title>Chinese Herbal Medicine - A pillar of TCM</image:title>
<image:caption>Alongside acupuncture, Chinese Herbal Medicine is one of the main tools used in the system of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Following the Chinese medicine diagnosis, herbs are usually prescribed to carefully match your condition and symptoms. Patients often report improvements not only in their presenting condition but in other seemingly unrelated areas of their health. One of the benefits of Chinese herbal medicine is that it is taken every day so works on a daily basis to help with the presenting condition and symptoms. Most commonly, the herbs come in the form of concentrated powders. The prescription is then taken in the form of a tea made from adding boiling water to these concentrated powders. Some common herbs include mint, ginger and cinnamon. All the herbs that are prescribed at the clinic are plant based . Side effects from being treated with Chinese herbal medicine are very rare. Our Chinese herbalists are members of the Chinese herbal register ( RCHM ) and as such are trained to a high standard and practices in compliance with their professional code of practice and conduct. To ensure that the herbs are of the highest possible quality, herbs are only dispensed from herbal pharmacIes that are on the RCHM Approved Suppliers Scheme. Any Company on the Approved suppliers list is checked annually by a trained pharmaceutical auditor to see whether it meets the required standards for herbal quality assurance as well as complying with CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) restrictions.</image:caption>

<image:title>Men's Fertility & Health - Male Factor Support</image:title>
<image:caption>Around 40% of fertility issues are thought to be down to male factor problems, including up to 80% of early miscarriages which could be caused by faults in the sperm. The importance of sperm quality cannot be overstated. It can impact miscarriage rates, as well as the future health of the baby. Because men are producing new sperm all the time, we have a significant opportunity to impact quality. Through our variety of therapies, we’re here to help you with: Low Sperm Count Decreased Sperm Motility Decreased Sperm Morphology Anxiety and depression related to stress SPERM DNA FRAGMENTATION In our clinic we often see couples who have been told they have ‘unexplained infertility’ when actually there is a male factor issue. We understand how frustrating it can be to be left with no known diagnosis, particularly as sperm DNA damage may actually be the cause in up to 80% of these cases. To help you find answers (and solutions), we offer the Examen DNA Fragmentation Test which can detect underlying issues in sperm such as lesions, damage or breaks in its genetic material. SPERM DNA VS SEMEN ANALYSIS Semen analysis is usually the first step men take when looking into their fertility. It provides important information of sperm health but often that’s not enough. This first line of testing looks solely at the motility (the movement), morphology (shape) and concentration (quantity) of the sperm, rather than the quality. The Examen DNA Fragmentation Test goes much further and can detect underlying damage in sperm. Men with damaged sperm DNA are less likely to get their partner pregnant and have double the risk of miscarriage, they are less likely to be successful with fertility treatment, such as IVF. The good news is that sperm DNA damage is almost always treatable with lifestyle changes and nutritional therapy. COST OF EXAMEN SPERM DNA FRAGMENTATION TESTS Exact – measuring total SDF damage: for those struggling to conceive -£565 Extend – measuring double-strand SDF damage only: for those experiencing (recurrent) miscarriage - £665 Extensiv – a comprehensive package of both the Exact and Extend tests purchased together - £935 Sperm concentration levels can be obtained from a semen analysis test. It is now a requirement from Examen Lab that you have a SA test before going ahead with sperm DNA fragmentation testing. You can obtain semen analysis test through your GP free of charge. If time is of the essence, going via private route at The Fertility and Pregnancy Centre might be the best choice.</image:caption>

<image:title>Men's Fertility & Health - The DNA Fragmentation Test</image:title>
<image:caption>We are proud to be the Scottish Hub for DNA Fragmentation testing This specific test is the only way to determine whether DNA is fragmented. A typical sperm test will only measure whether sperm has motility, reasonable morphology and good enough concentration; it will not tell you if it contains DNA that is functional. We have worked with many couples having IVF and ICS treatment who have been unable to carry a pregnancy to full term, despite previous tests have shown “normal” sperm. This can be incredibly frustrating and disheartening for our patients. When we look at the sperm using this specific test and see high levels of DNA fragmentation, we know that it is unlikely that that the sperm in its current condition will produce a baby and can help you make changes to diet and lifestyle which can improve the sperm quality. Many of our couples go on to conceive naturally or with IVF treatment. You can find out more information about the test here. The process Once the sperm sample has been collected and frozen it is sent to Belfast University for testing with results typically arriving 10-14 days later. They will be emailed to us and we will then forward them onto you and arrange a time to discuss the test and any questions you have about the results. The cost of the test is £545 which is payable when ordering the test. If the test results point to high levels of DNA fragmentation, we would encourage a consultation with one of our practitioners, who can help you formulate an action plan going head. It can be then very useful to repeat the test 3 - 4 months later to verify whether the implemented changes have had the desired effect. If you would like have a chat about DNA fragmentation, you can contact us on malefertility@albanystreetclinic.co.uk</image:caption>

<image:title>Acupuncture - An ancient wisdom</image:title>
<image:caption>Acupuncture is one of the main treatments used in our clinic to help with promoting fertility and can be used in a wide variety of conditions. For over 3,000 years, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) has been using this technique to balance the flow of energy or life force — known as chi or qi (chee) — believed to flow through pathways (meridians) in your body It involves the insertion of very fine, sterile, single use needles into specific points on the body which are chosen according to the current needs and diagnosis of the patient. These points are usually on the lower legs and and lower arms , abdomen and back. Most treatments involve the very quick insertion of 10- 16 very fine needles which are left in place for up to 20 minutes. The majority of patients find acupuncture to be relaxing and therapeutic in its effect and look forward to their next treatment. How can Acupuncture help? The needles when they are inserted, stimulate a local and whole body response which helps the body and mind to self regulate physical and emotional imbalance, injury and inflammation. From a biomedical viewpoint acupuncture stimulates blood flow and uses trigger points to relax muscles. From a Chinese medicine perspective, it stimulates the flow of energy (Qi) along a network of channels that connect the body surface to the inner organs. Acupuncture seeks to address the root causes as well as treat the presenting symptoms with its individualised point prescription based on the diagnosis that has been made from the initial consultation and any subsequent consultation thereafter.</image:caption>
